Alston Koch dedication to N0. 1 Spin Doctor MURALI

Australian singing legend Alston Koch who was born in Sri Lanka has attracted worldwide interest with his tribute song to the world's greatest bowler in the history of cricket, Muttiah Muralitharan. 'Murali' is now the world's leading wicket taker, he swept past Australian spin bowler Shane Warne's record recently when Sri Lanka played England in a 3 test match series on the island.

In London, Muttiah Muralitharan received a standing ovation when his name was mentioned at the 'We, Children of the Pearl' cultural show held at Imperial College on 15th December 2007. Murali was hailed as a wonderful example of diversity in action in Sri Lanka.

Alston Koch has recorded the only tribute song officially endorsed by Murali himself.Alston told World Music Central that he has also released a music video to go with his 'Murali' song. It has been played by radio and TV stations in three continents and been even mentioned on the BBC's 'Test Match Special.'

He is the only Sri Lankan-born singer song-writer to be signed to an international record label and have success in Australia, Asia and Europe with Platinum & Gold record status.

ප්‍රෳඩ ඉතිහාසයකට උරුමකම් කියන ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන් වූ අප සතුව අන් කිසිදු භාෂාවකට නොදෙවෙනි වූ අලංකාර වූත් අර්ථ සම්පන්න වූත් භෂාවක් ඇත. නමුත් අවාසනාවකට මෙන් වර්තමානයේදී අප සිංහල භාෂාව භාවිතා කිරීමෙහි විශාල අඩුවක් දක්නට ඇත. එයට ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් බලපා ඇති කරුණක් වන්නේ නවීන තාක්ෂණයෙහි ආගමනයයි. මක්නිසාද, නවීන තාක්ෂණය භාවිතා කිරීමේදී අප සැමවිටම ගැටෙනනේ ඉංග්‍රීසි භාෂාව සමග නිසාය.

නමුත් අන් රටවල් හා සංසන්දනය කිරීමේදී(උදා:- ජපානය), එම රටවල් නවීන තාක්ෂණය භාවිතා කරන්නේ තම මවු භාෂාවෙනි. ඔවුන් නවීන තාක්ෂණික මෙවලම් තම රටට සහ භාෂාවට ඔබින ආකාරට සකස් කොට ඇත. නමුත් අප ශ්‍රී ලාංකාව සැලකීමේදී මෙම තත්වය දක්නට ඇතතේ ඉතාමත් සුළු වශයෙනි. එයද සිදු වී ඇතතේ පර්යේෂණ කටයුතු සදහාය. මේ ආකාරයට සිංහල භාෂාවෙහි භාවිතය ක්‍රමක්‍රමයෙන් අඩු වුවහොත් සිංහල භාෂාව මිය ගිය භාෂාවක් වනු නොවනුමානය.

ඉංග්‍රීසි භාෂාව භාවිතා කරීම වරදක් නොවේ. එය භාවිතා කල යුතුය. නමුත් එය කල යුත්තේ අප සිංහල භාෂාව රැක ගනිමිනි.

සිංහල භාෂාව නවීන තාක්ෂණය සමග අනුගත කිරීමෙහිලා ආයතන කිහිපයක් අගනා සේවයක් ඉටු කරයි. එය පැසසිය යුතු මෙන්ම ජාතික සේවයකි.

IR – Decoder for Sony Remotes

Infrared remote control has been around for a very long time now, and we tend to take it for granted. Yet, it is a marvel of modern technology, which allows a whole variety of devices to be activated with the touch of a button. Remote control handsets are so abundant that they may be purchased new for a few pounds, which makes them viable items for experimentation. There are dedicated chips available that will decode the signals from a particular handset, however, with the flexibility and cost effectiveness of the PIC range of microcontrollers we can develop a decoding subroutine that may be placed into your own programs, or used as a standalone infrared to RS232 converter.

It is not my intention to teach you how to program a PICmicro, therefore, throughout this article; it is assumed that you already have some knowledge of either assembler or PicBASIC Pro. And that you have a means of programming the PIC16F84. For more information concerning the PicBASIC range of compilers, as well as an assortment of programmers, visit Crownhill Associate’s dedicated web site at www.picbasic.co.uk. For information concerning assembler programming, visit Microchip’s web site at www.microchip.com.

Middleware Architecture Assignment

Everyone knows about Hearts Game in Windows. We have been given an assignment of Middle ware Architecture Course unit to recreate the Hearts Game which can be played in a Network using RMI(Remote Method Invocation) and RPC(Remote Procedure Call). This program is written in java.
Here, I didn't implemented all the features in Hearts Game. But basic rules & functionalities are implemented. You are welcome for comments.

Wireless sensor networks

A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a wireless network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices using sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion or pollutants, at different locations. The development of wireless sensor networks was originally motivated by military applications such as battlefield surveillance. However, wireless sensor networks are now used in many civilian application areas, including environment and habitat monitoring, healthcare applications, home automation, and traffic control.

Sensor node (mote)

A sensor node, also known as a mote (chiefly in North America), is a node in a wireless sensor network that is capable of performing some processing, gathering sensory information and communicating with other connected nodes in the network.
The most widely used and one of the cheapest mote/sensor nodes are MICAZ motes. The MICAZ motes are used in low-power, wireless, sensor networks which are based on AVR “ATmega128” Microcontroller (Microcontroller is a tiny processor).


Contiki Operating System

Contiki is a tiny, open source, highly portable, multi-tasking operating system for memory-constrained networked embedded systems written by Dr. Adam Dunkels, an experimental computer scientist of the Networked Embedded Systems Group at Computer Systems Laboratory of the Swedish Institute of Computer Science, Kista, Sweden.
Its features Include full TCP/IP networking through uIP (micro-IP), a graphical (GUI) subsystem, VNC server, world's smallest web browser, etc. Contiki also consists of an event-driven kernel on top of which application programs are dynamically loaded and unloaded at runtime. Contiki is an appropriate operating system for using in the sensor network arena.

What is Compiz Fusion ?

Compiz Fusion is the result of a merge between the well-known Beryl composite window manager and Compiz Extras, a community set of improvements to the Compiz composite window manager. Compiz Fusion aims to provide an easy and fun-to-use windowed environment, allowing use of the graphics hardware to render each individual window and the entire screen, to provide some impressive effects, speed and usefulness. The first Compiz Fusion developer release was Compiz Fusion 0.5.2 on August 13th 2007, shortly after Compiz 0.5.2 was released. First stable release of Compiz Fusion is 0.6.0 released on October 20 2007.

Compiz Fusion is an open-source software project, meaning anyone can use it freely and contribute.

It is important to note that Compiz and Compiz Fusion are not the same thing (see: Compiz Fusion Vs Compiz). There is close co-operation between the developers of Compiz and the developers of Compiz Fusion, though ; in fact, many Compiz Fusion developers are also Compiz developers.
